<title>Installation of Perl</title>
<para>First apply the following patch to adapt some hard-wired paths to the
C library:</para>

<para>Prepare Perl for compilation:</para>
<screen><userinput remap="configure">sh Configure -des -Dprefix=/tools</userinput></screen>
<para>Build the package:</para>

<para>Although Perl comes with a test suite, it would be better to wait
until it is installed in the next chapter.</para>
<para>Only a few of the utilities and libraries, need to be installed at this
time:</para>
